QUAL Golf Day 2022 (President’s Cup)

A small but enthusiastic gathering turned out at Beaconsfield Golf Club on 18th May for the 2022 edition of the QUAL President’s Cup. Having missed last year because of the pandemic, it was worth the wait as the course was in great shape and the sun shone all afternoon.

Many thanks as always to John Kelly who has organised the event for a number of years and to fellow Beaconsfield member John Campbell who helped sign in the guests. Both the QUAL and Guest prizes were keenly contested and in the end Andrew Coppel’s invitee Don Smith took the guest prize with 39 pts ahead of Jonny Bramley’s guest Martin O’Neill with 37. Martin, the former Northern Ireland International (and manager of Celtic, Sunderland and the Republic of Ireland among other teams) is a Queen’s Honorary Graduate so we hope he may return again next year.

The main prize and magnificent trophy were claimed by Jonny Bramley ahead of Andrew Coppel who had 34 pts. Jonny had an exceptional 45 points and adds his name to the trophy for the 5th time. Jonny, who has a handicap of 14.7 said “it wasn’t quite my best-ever round but it came close. Everything just clicked today”. There is already a date in the diary for 2023: 1030 Wednesday 31st May at Beaconsfield GC. It would be great to see a bigger turnout next year and new faces are very welcome.
